Why not just use Gmail or Google Workspace?
Gmail's business model is reading your mail to build advertising profiles, then selling that attention to advertisers. Even Workspace, which doesn't show ads, still aggregates metadata and reserves the right to scan for "abuse." If you'd rather pay a fair price for a service that has no incentive to look inside your inbox, this is for you.
How is this different from ProtonMail or Fastmail?
We respect both. ProtonMail is great at end-to-end encryption between Proton users, but most email you send is to non-Proton addresses — so the encryption story is partial. Fastmail is excellent and we recommend it if you want a mature product today. Heaven Mail is for people who want EU data residency, fully open-standard infrastructure, no proprietary clients, and a guaranteed exit path via mbox export at any time.
Can I bring my own domain?
Yes, on Pro and Business. You keep ownership of your domain at your registrar — we just host the mailboxes. We give you the DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC) to paste in. If you ever leave, you point your MX records elsewhere and you're done.
What happens to my mail if Heaven Mail shuts down?
Honest answer: every business has a non-zero chance of going under. Here's our commitment if that ever happens — we'll give 90 days advance notice via email, we'll keep your mailboxes accessible read-only for those 90 days, and the full mbox export tool stays available the whole time. Because we use open standards (IMAP), you can also point any other mail client at us during that window and pull everything down. We will never disappear overnight with your mail.
Where is my mail physically stored?
In data centres in Germany, on hardware we control. Storage is encrypted at rest. Backups are encrypted and geographically separated, also within the EU. We do not replicate mail outside the EU.
How does pricing work for teams?
Business is per-seat — each person on the team gets their own mailbox(es) and 50 GB. Shared inboxes (like support@ or hello@) don't count as separate seats. You'll be billed monthly or annually, with a 15% discount on annual.
Is there a free plan?
Yes — 1 mailbox, 1 GB, on a heavenmail.com subdomain. It's a real product, not a trial. Use it for as long as you want. If you outgrow it, upgrade to Pro for your own domain and more storage.
